GAMSTOP & GamCare Criminal Justice System Work

GAMSTOP & GamCare Criminal Justice System Work
3 May 2024

We have recently started working with GamCare to raise awareness of gambling-related harm within the criminal justice system. So far, staff members from HMP New Hall, HMP Leeds, HMP Wakefield and HMP Wealstun have attended training.

Beginning with an introduction to gambling-related harm, the training focuses on spotting the signs of gambling addiction, whether a prisoner is at the beginning or end of their sentence. Staff are also provided with signposting opportunities for treatment through GamCare and free practical tools including GAMSTOP.

The training supplements GamCare’s biweekly visits to HMP Leeds and HMP Wealstun, where they work with individual prisoners and groups who have self-referred to receive support for their gambling.

We are eager to continue and extend this important work to promote awareness and support for people struggling with gambling within the criminal justice system.
